📋About USMLE Step 1

USMLE Step 1 is the first of three steps in the United States Medical Licensing Examination series. For Indian MBBS graduates seeking residency in the USA, passing all three USMLE steps (Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 3) is mandatory. Step 1 was converted to Pass/Fail in January 2022, but remains a critical milestone for US residency applications.

✅Eligibility

Qualification: MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution; must be enrolled in or a graduate of a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools

• International Medical Graduates (IMGs) including Indian doctors apply through ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates)
• Must obtain ECFMG certification after passing Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 2 CS (waived) to apply for US residency
• No age limit
• Students can appear in Step 1 during MBBS (typically after 2nd year) or after graduation
