राष्ट्रीय प्रौढ़ शिक्षा कार्यक्रम
Ministry of Education
Launched on 2 October 1978 by Prime Minister Morarji Desai with a target to make 100 million illiterate adults (15-35 years) literate by 1983, the NAEP was India's largest adult literacy programme at that time. It mobilised university students through the NSS and NCC as volunteer teachers and set up adult education centres across villages. NAEP was succeeded by the National Literacy Mission (1988) and later by the Saakshar Bharat programme.
