गंगा कार्य योजना
Ministry of Environment and Forests
India's first major river action plan, launched by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on 14 January 1985 to improve the water quality of the Ganga river. GAP Phase I (1985-1993) focused on interception and diversion of sewage from 25 Class-I towns along the Ganga. It was expanded as GAP Phase II (1993) to cover Yamuna, Gomti, and tributaries. GAP was eventually merged into the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) in 1995 and later subsumed under Namami Gange in 2015.
