Ministry of Community Development and Cooperation
Launched on 2 October 1952 by Prime Minister Nehru, the Community Development Programme was India's first large-scale rural development initiative. It aimed to transform rural life through integrated development of agriculture, education, health, and infrastructure using a Block Development Officer system. The programme covered 55 Community Development Blocks at launch and expanded to cover the entire country by 1963.
